Tamiflu®: Beware of counterfeits!

As early as Saturday, the first spam e-mails offering Tamiflu® were circulated, only shortly after the first reports on swine influenza in Mexico had reached the media. The Danish Medicines Agency's investigations show that these e-mails have been joined by websites offering to sell Tamiflu® to frightened citizens without a prescription.

The Danish Medicines Agency warns strongly against trusting these offers. Previous experience show that the offered product is far from being genuine. In the best case scenario, such medicine has no effect. In the worst case scenario, it may contain substances that are outright damaging.

- It is condemnable that somebody is trying to profit from people's concern for this situation, says Anne-Marie Vangsted, Head of the Medicines Control Division.
