    Still more types of illegal medicine sold in creative packages online

    Over the past six months, the Danish Medicines Agency has withheld an increasing number of different products in customs. Many of them appear to be common food products or food supplements, but in fact they contain medicine, and this is not written on the package. For example, it can be sachets with powder that can be added to juice or milkshakes – or coffee with medicine in it.

    Global operation strikes at online sale of illegal and counterfeit medicines - "Operation PANGEA IV"

    In the past week, more than 165 regulatory authorities from 81 countries took part in "Operation PANGEA IV", a global action against online trading of counterfeit and illegal drugs. The operation sets out to raise awareness about the risks associated with buying medicines on the internet and through joint efforts to bring these offences to justice.

    Scam company behind sundeled.dk still makes empty threats of debt collection

    Since our warning in April against the scam company behind the website sundeled.dk, calling itself Helse Danmark A/S, the number of seized packages of glucosamine sent to Denmark illegally from the scam company in Singapore has dropped to almost none. Helse Danmark A/S is not registered in Denmark. The Danish Medicines Agency considers the company to be fake and has reported sundeled.dk to the police for illegal sale of medicines.

    Pharmacists and pharmaconomists qualified outside Denmark can participate in an EU competition

    At the Danish Medicines Agency, we assess the qualifications of foreign pharmacists and pharmaconomists who apply for authorisation to work at a Danish pharmacy. The EU Commission and the upcoming Polish EU Presidency are presently looking for real-life stories from citizens who have experience from living and working abroad.

    Warning against the websites vitamarket.net and vitanatural.net

    The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration and the Danish Medicines Agency warn against two almost identical websites vitanatural.net and vitamarket.net, which are selling a number of products that are illegal and may be dangerous to consumers. The marketed products concern food supplements, unauthorised medicines and doping agents.

    Online application for authorisation to sell medicines outside pharmacies

    We now launch the possibility for online submission of applications for authorisation to sell non-pharmacy restricted medicines for retailers outside the pharmacy sector. Application for and renewal of authorisations take place easily and securely on DKMAnet, the Danish Medicines Agency's access-controlled portal.

    Annual report on the inspection of retail sale of OTC medicines 2009-2010

    In our report for 2008-2009, we made a number of critical remarks about the pharmacies' OTC outlets where we found too many deficiencies: expired medicines, possibility of self-service, medicines mixed with other goods, staff which did not know the rules, etc. We are therefore pleased with the figures for 2009-2010, which show that many pharmacies and their OTC outlets have acted on our criticism.

    Warning against sundeled.dk – the scam company Helse Danmark A/S

    Thousands have been deceived into purchasing glucosamine illegally from the website sundeled.dk. In addition to the risk of a DKK 2,500 fine for purchasing illegal medicines, several Danes have been threatened with debt collection by the company behind the website.
