Heavy metals in products for traditional Indian healing

Health Canada, the Canadian pharmaceutical authority, has issued a warning about products used for traditional Indian healing containing large amounts of heavy metals, such as lead, mercury and/or arsenic.

The products in question are the so-called Ayurvedic products, which are used in traditional Indian healing and which are often imported from India . The warning on Health Canada ’s website includes the following products:

  • Karela tablets and capsules
  • Maha Sudarshan Churna powder
  • SAFI liquid
  • Yograj Guggul tablets
  • Sudarshan tablets
  • Shilajit capsules.

The Danish Medicines Agency recommends that people possessing these products refrain from using them.
