Total sales of medicines in Denmark
The publication ”Total sales of medicines" is now updated with figures from 2009
Based on eight tables, the publication "Total sales of medicines" provides an overview of the total medicines sale in Denmark over the past five years (from 2005 up to and including 2009).
Below are a few key aspects from the publication.
In 2009, the turnover of medicines was DKK 13.4 billion in the primary Danish health sector. This is roughly the same as in 2008. Consumption measured in defined daily doses (DDDs) has increased by 3 per cent – a slightly smaller increase than in the past years. An unchanged turnover and an increasing consumption are the consequences of the continuously falling medicine prices. In the hospital area, total consumption in terms of DKK grew by 9 per cent from 2008 to 2009 – a significantly lower growth than previous years, which can be assigned to the introduction of a price regulation agreement for medicines reserved for hospital use.
The publication also breaks down the sale of medicines on categories such as prescription-only medicine and over-the-counter medicine, different types of reimbursement grants and it includes a list of the 25 best-selling active ingredients.
