Reimbursement
When you buy medicine on prescription, the Danish National Health Service frequently pays some of the cost. As a consumer, you automatically receive reimbursement once you buy medicine eligible for reimbursement for more than DKK 850 a year. The more money you spend on medicine, the more reimbursement you get. Read more about reimbursement percentages
Besides from automatic (general) reimbursement for medicine, it is also possible to get other kinds of reimbursement (single reimbursement). Your doctor must apply for single reimbursement on your behalf. Read more about single reimbursement
If you are chronically ill, you may incur very large expenses for medicine. A ceiling is put on your expenses, if you are granted reimbursement for the chronically ill. The ceiling is with a user charge of DKK 3,490 calculated in reimbursement prices. Read more about reimbursement for the chronically ill
The size of your reimbursement is calculated on the basis of the least expensive medicine you can use for treating you illness or your symptoms. This means that even though you choose to buy a more expensive medicine, you only receive reimbursement for the least expensive medicine.
The least expensive medicine is also used as a basis when your total expenses are calculated. The reimbursement price may not amount to the full price of the medicine. Read more about reimbursement prices
